The aim of the app, which is free to download and available now on Apple and Android, is to provide organisations and individuals in Jersey with the easiest possible experience when accessing resources and guidance about our local data protection laws and their relationship with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
A key function of the app is an offline GDPR article reference with a bookmarking facility that allows users to save relevant articles for future use.
Information Commissioner Dr. Jay Fedorak said: “Our JOIC app is full of information about the technical elements of our local laws compared with the GDPR. The user has the opportunity to click on the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018 articles and schedules then to explore the associated part of the GDPR or the recitals and our guidance, to provide a full data protection experience. The guidance material is held on our dynamic website www.jerseyoic.org.”
“Figures suggest around 400,000 apps are being downloaded every minute. With both our private and business lives being increasingly lived online, we believe data protection needs to be as accessible as possible to all sectors of society. The app was designed to add value to our existing online platform, improve accessibility and increase engagement with local organisations and the Jersey public. Our aim is to enhance the visibility and accessibility of data protection, privacy and practical support in a one stop shop resource.”
