Main focus of Anne's role and her area of expertise

As Operations Director, Anne supports the Information Commissioner in developing the JOIC’s strategy across all areas to ensure that its short and long-term objectives are met.

In addition to leading the JOIC towards its longer term vision and strategy, in her role as Operations Director, Anne also oversees the day to day operations to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of its core processes and services.

Anne is directly responsible for the flow of all operational information to the Information Commissioner and the Authority. When required she deputises for the Information Commissioner.

 

Day to day responsibilities

Anne supports the Information Commissioner to build public awareness of data protection and a positive reputation of the JOIC, ensuring its brand and services are favourable in the eye of the public.

A typical day for Anne involves liaising with the Information Commissioner, casework team, finance, human resources, policy, legal and administration to gauge activities and to judge if JOIC needs to be proactive on a specific topic or respond to a situation.

She oversees the development of policies and procedures to ensure that core operational processes across the JOIC run effectively and achieve high levels of customer satisfaction.

Anne has oversight of the operations of the office and the team, making sure that the office is appropriately resourced and effective. She answers questions from the team, businesses and individuals on a daily basis; identifying any concerns or gaps that need to be addressed.

Anne regularly presents to different industry groups on data protection and specific areas of the law. In addition, Anne oversees JOIC’s Board Support Service ‘Navigating the Data Protection Risk and Liability at Board Level.

A key focus for Anne is to work with the Information Commissioner to develop collaborative working relationships with other European and international Data Protection and Privacy regulators.

Career experience

Anne’s career has always focused on people and delivering great customer service. Historically she has undertaken in-depth data protection audits and training for a variety of public authorities and private organisations in Jersey.

Anne spearheaded the work of the Jersey Consumer Council as Executive Officer where her objective was to investigate and publicise anomalies in consumer affairs to provide Jersey citizens with accurate and timely information to help make informed decisions.

For three years, Anne worked as a change agent for a Jersey organisation that involved significant improvements in internal and external communications; utilising communications as a foundation for organisational change.

In London, Anne worked as a Commercial Director and a Change Consultant within the transport sector, focusing on transferring an ex-public sector body into a commercial business operating in a highly competitive tendering market.

Anne joined the Board of Citizens Advice Jersey in 2020 and is a committee member for the Whiteley Association Jersey.
